A blog chronicling my departure from urban life on the east coast to sheep farm and cheese making life on the west coast. Still recounting the meals I have eaten in my new setting, but with more sheep thrown into the mix.

The Right Stuff
Last night I watched The Right Stuff directed by Philip Kaufman. Many a year ago I read the book The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe. The movie, though good, doesn't come close to the book. In the book Wolfe was able to fully capture the psychology, personality and character of test pilots/astronauts. This sense of detail (which Wolfe is known for) made the entire topic of mach 2, g force and space exploration far more interesting than I had previously thought. The movie is a bit less dense. The actors do a fine job but without ever really breaking (in my mind) into full blown people...they're all more like character actors than not. My last thought on this matter? Read the book.
