Dinner c/o Hama Matsu

Last night the boyfriend and I were all prepared for the arrival of a friend from Wisconsin...but it was snowing...so he's coming today. Before we knew he wasn't coming we went out to Hama Matsu Restaurant for a bit of a sushi fix.
Hama Matsu is a relatively small restaurant with approximately fifteen tables and eight stools at the sushi bar. They've made their small space very inviting by putting up large stretched canvas over the lights thus lowering the ceiling, giving the place a cozy low lit atmosphere and making the act of taking photographs extremely difficult. We sat at a booth at the front of the restaurant surrounded by dew dropped fake roses and lit candles. At Hama Matsu you get little treats with your meal that seem to change. This time around we got kim chi, some mayonaisy potato and cucumber salad, and sweet pickled zucchini. We also had miso soup.
We split the Oyster Sunomono appetizer which came with shredded cabbage and a rather spicy (in a good way) dressing. We had the oysters last time and they seemed to be a little lighter in their fried-ness...I felt like maybe they were halfway through their oil when they got to these oysters, still very good but not as tempura-esque as in the past. I ordered wasabi tobikko, unagi maki and a rainbow roll. All was tasty.
At the tables around us late twenty somethings/early thirtiers were all talking about marriage...at length.
