Kitchen Sink Salad c/o Chat & Chew

On my last night in New York City I had dinner with two high school friends. We met in Union Square and went to Chat and Chew. The restaurant was packed which was surprising considering the fact it was a Tuesday but no matter. The narrow restaurant's walls were heavily hung with old metal signs and advertisements. We were given a back corner table which was nice and out of the way. Our waitress was friendly and seemed to be truly regretful when she told us that the blender was broken so there would be no frozen margaritas...we didn't mind and went with margaritas on the rocks which were very good if a little heavy on the ice.
Chat and Chew's menu is a smorgasborg of comfort food favorites from meatloaf to macoroni and cheese...not to mention fish tacos and sweet potato fries. I ordered the 'Sink Salad' and a side of mashed potatoes with gravy.--which included artichoke hearts, chicken, ham, bacon, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, croutons, cucumbers and a few other things. Most of the entrees were around twelve dollars but the portions were enormous. The gravy on the potatoes was thick and flavorful and the potatoes themselves creamy (they left the skins on). A most delightful and filling meal.

Afterwards we went to a bar called Revival for a beer. I liked this bar, which was not packed, because it had nice little sofa areas for sitting and a year round garden area with optional heating (it was a nice night so we didn't bother asking the bartender to turn it on for us). It was nice to semi-catch up/simply hang out with these two people. Good times.
