Extras

I took these photographs as we returned to the parking lot. I think this picture more properly shows you the whole stairs/tall/rock thing.
Mountain Laurel, I do believe?
I wouldn't, in nine million years, jump off of the falls but I have quite a few relatives who, in their youth, were more confident/brave/stupid than myself and have lived to tell the tale.

Mountain laurel indeed, in full laurel glory.

The circular stair is the latest in a number of stair incarnations there, and from a safety perspective probably the best so far. In between the old rickety home made one that used to be there and this beaut, there was a wooden one with landscaping timbers and planks, with the timbers sort of fake bolted into rock or tree or serious dirtpile. Some were held in place with metal rods inserted into holes in the timbers.

They still use that rod-in-holes hope for the best method in one of my favorite parks near here, sort of bolted onto rock face sort of maybe not. And there is a wooden staircase with ill-sized risers clinging to a damp rock face to get you down to a pool...under a waterfall not as glorious as this one, but pretty fab on its own. I am thinking road trip!!! At least local...probably no dogs tho, poor dogs are maligned here and one is discouraged from letting them off lead to go play like dogs. Sad. A ripple effect of too many people and not enough nature, I suppose. As usual, the people win over the dogs. Too bad.
