Last Saturday I met up with A. and we went shopping at the Cherry Hill Mall. Upon our return to the better designed roads of Pennsylvania (I hate New Jersey's whole 'no left turn ever' thing that they do with a lot of their roads) we went to Rembrandt's to watch the Kentucky Derby. While there we tried their Tuscan fries and the cheese, fruit and cured meats platter. The fries had a lot going on, balsamic onions, garli aioli, parsley, maybe cheese? They were quite good when hot, but once it cooled down it wasn't as compelling somehow.
The antipasti plate had a lot going on: crackers, cured meats, truffle cheese, honey, black berries and nuts. It was really quite lovely when I think on it. Totally worth the $12 and easily shared with one or two other people.
Oh! And roasted red peppers.
I had a heffewisen.
It was a nice afternoon. The sound wasn't on for the lead up to the race, so we didn't know the story behind the scratched horse and its jockey, Joe Talamo--who has been featured in the reality show Jockeys, which is absolutely compelling...partially for the voiceovers and edits, as well as how badass jockeys kind of are...those dudes are for serious. Without the sound we didn't get to hear about the lives of the trainer/owner/jockey/horse of the longshot...or the horse that has never lost or any number of possibilities. It was a good race but not having a real stake in the outcome made it a slightly less successful thing to watch. I like my horses to have stories. Then there were the firemen going around to all the fire hydrants.
