I just applied for a job teaching English in Japan.

Great idea if you are serious about learning Japanese. But mastering the native patois of Savannah may be easier. Anyway, I'm sure that you already know that now is the one and only time in your life to give such a thing a try. Good Luck.

We shall see. They pay in yen. I bet there's good sushi though...which would probably cost a month's salary.

Excellent idea!
I did it for one year and wish I had stayed longer...still consider going back.
Depending on the position, you make a decent wage, have opportunities to travel, eat delicious and strange foods, sing karaoke and sit in onsen (hot springs) as often as you like.
Do it.
