Wednesday nights have become the boyfriend's and my going out to eat night. Usually we succumb to our desire for sushi but this past Wednesday I thought we should branch out a little. It was hard to branch out. It's so easy just to eat good sushi every week and be satisfied. But I knew that there are so many restaurants that I've passed by that I think I should visit ... so we went to
Calo Restaurant. The boyfriend had been to Calo once while I was in Europe. This was my first visit. We ordered the Calamari Diavola, fried calamari in a "spicy buffalo lime cilantro" sauce. It was spicy but I didn't really notice the lime or cilantro in the sauce's flacor. For the most part the sauce tasted just like any buffalo wings sauce. Maybe a little lighter. Somehow it was disappointing.
I realized you can really learn what kind of restaurant a restaurant is by theirr free/accompanying salads. If it's iceberg, well, you're not in as nice a restaurant as you may think. Especially if it's iceberg lettuce, one cucumber slice and two tomatoes.
I ordered the Farfalle with scallops in a lemon basil cream sauce. It was pretty good. Pretty creamy, for sure. I didn't pick up on the basil. The lemon elements of the sauce were sporadic, some bites I could taste it (and like it) but many bites were not as textured. The scallops were tender and plentiful ... really, I was shocked at the number of scallops I was given. The boyfriend had the clams in red sauce over linguini.
I think I would go back to Calo one more time. I would try their ribs or some more standard meat dish. And I wouldn't have their salad or their Buffalo calamari.

You know, their pizza is delightful. I wouldn't go for anything else.
i am kind of dissagree with you i benn going to calo sence i was little kid,and i would say in chicago calo have good pasta,pizza,and seafood,rember that your taste and other ppl tast r different.ther ribs,and crablegs one off the best i think u shoud go there again and try again.
