Mr. Ass and C.P. said that one point they saw a dolphin do a flip. But I missed it, which made me sad since I haven't seen that since my first visit to the beach in 2009. I think it was 2009.

A Day at the Beach, Prominently Featuring Dolphins
Once we were properly caffeinated we walked to the beach. It's not a bad walk, maybe half a mile or a little more, and it spits you out onto a stretch of beach far enough away from the park's main 'bath house' that you get to have a little more space and room to yourself. No throngs. No blankets touching blankets. It's lovely. I had enticed many to come to Delaware more with the promise of dolphins than the majesty of my company, so it was very important that the ocean gods delivered. And deliver they did. Look closely for the dolphins please.
Mr. Ass scanning the horizon for the dolphins. In this particular shot it looks like none surfaced, but seconds on either side I'm sure their fins were glistening in the sunlight.
K.H. was fancy free...though her fancy free-ness came at a price. You'll see.
I cropped this photo so you could see more of the dolphins, but it's a little grainy. I need a better zoom. Or something.
Proof that we were at the same place at the same time ... and that I have a gut and K.H. is ripped.
K.H. lounging. A high price she would pay. Oh yes. You'll see.
Dolphins are the theme of this post.

K.H., Mr. Ass and I played Scrabble. I forget who won.
On the walk back I saw this baby deer. I like baby deer because they have freckles, and so do I!
I like yellow birds.

Monday, Monday, Can Camp That Day
I didn't visit the beach on Sunday, too busy was I with my desire to drink iced coffee and hate outlet malls (I went to all the outlet stores and managed to not buy a single thing...though I then went to a book store and bought two books...but it wasn't an outlet store). This is what I woke up to on Monday morning. The campsite kind of sucked, it was very much in the middle of everything with not even a hint of pretend privacy. But inside my tent was still lovely.

So on Monday I went to the beach. I went into the water and floated, I got out and read, and repeated this a few times. I also took a nap that was punctuated by the sound of French children and American mothers yelling 'DOLPHIN!'

Even with my zoom lens I didn't get fantastic dolphin pictures, but if you were to click on the images you'd at least get a slightly better view.
No jellyfish on this day, but obscenely tall odd looking men abounded. Well, just the one.
This is a pretty bird. It has tags on both of its feet, so it must be special. A prize (of glory) to whomever can identify it for me.

Morning Walk Around Cape Henlopen
My night in the tent was uneventful, not overly comfortable but that was to be expected. I woke up around five in the morning to the sound of thunder and a light rain but I had confidence in my tent's rain flap and fell back asleep for another hour or two. When I finally did get out of the tent, the rain had stopped and the sun was up (around 8). I took a walk down a path I hadn't been down before, expecting that I would turn up on the shore quite easily (that was definitely part of the experience of sleeping I liked -I could hear the waves crashing on one another in the distance once it got quiet...which it did at 9 pm), but that was a bit of a mistake on my part. The path I took led to Fort Miles.

A decomissioned set of barracks and guns soon to be fixed up to accurately reflect what it looked like during World War II.

Eventually the ocean did come into view, though there wasn't actually a path to it....only dunes, which of course I wasn't going to traipse across.
Even though I missed the sunrise, the early morning view was still something to see. While looking east you saw the sun shining on the water, but looking west all you saw were blue/grey ominous, ominous clouds with the occasional muted flash of lightning. Also, there were dolphins in the water. There was no way for me to be sure when they would be surfacing, or for how long, so I just took a lot of photographs hoping they might briefly appear somewhere. And they did. Now you can play the fun game I like to call 'find the dolphins amongst the expanse of water and sky game,' if you find them I will give you a prize of some kind. Maybe. Depending on where you live and what kind of prize you think you deserve.

I've made these photographs big, but i'm not sure if that takes away their detail. I just noticed that i could stretch images within the post....has this always been the case? Have I always been wondering how to make images larger when I could have just done this? Do they lose quality in this manner of stretching?
