Music c/o Alec Gross and the Tin Angel

Two weeks back, on a Thursday, I met up with L. and we took the 33 bus to the Tin Angel. My first bus trip in Philly! There we met up with C. and M. to watch their friend J. play music, as well as Alec Gross, also their friend. Alec also went to my high school, but I didn't really know him (a running theme in my Philly high school stories). The venue was small and not overly crowded, the music was good.

M. had these amazing bracelets that she let me play with briefly. Shiny shimmery fun.

Indian Appetizers and Gala Apples

Above: Another work lunch from King of Tandoor. I only ordered a piece of naan but the restaurant sent us treats, and I sampled one. I can't remember what they were called. The dragon was certainly curious. Then to the farmer's market. I believe I bought myself some Gala apples. In the past I've managed to get to an orchard for apple season, buy a hell of a lot of apples, and make apple sauce. This year, I'm not sure that will happen. Not all the apple sauce from last year was eaten. There was some of it in my mother's freezer, but I forgot it when I left and she'd been asking me to take it for months. I want no apple to suffer that same plight. Plus it's a fair amount of work to peel and core a bushel of apples.

Bad Choice and Faulty Choice

Another night we ordered dinner from Fairmount. I had a desire for something different, so I thought I'd try a steak, cheese and something else, stromboli. C. placed the order and when given the choice of a small or large, she went with large. The thing was gargantuan and, in my estimation, not all that good. Whatever I hoped it would be, it was not. Others tried it and liked it better. Mine was the bad choice.

Gyros Sandwich c/o Zorba's

I had a good gyros experiemce for lunch one day. I'm not sure if this is a normal situation for gyros, but mine had a french fry, maybe two, in its layers. It reminded me of salade Lyonnaise (I should really just write a Lyonnaise salad), a dish I have always enjoyed. The tzatziki sauce was quite nice, the meat as well.
It came from Zorba's.

Indian Kebab

For dinner, at work, one night, the day I couldn't tell you...it seems very long ago...we ordered from King of Tandoor. I decided to try another new thing. I believe it was Seekh Kebab. Ground lamb skewered and cooked Tandoori style. Interesting texture and taste. Altogether something I would try once more before deciding whether I liked it or not.

Dumplings, Eggplant

Another lunch, another day, was Chinese food from a restaurant, the name of which I forget. My coworker C. and I split an order of meat dumplings (C. seemed totally unfamiliar with the concept of dumplings, but she's young so we can forgive her).

I had the eggplant in garlic sauce. I expected more of a bite and a little less viscosity.
The dragon, I learned, has deep seated feelings over the vegetable. Mainly that he loves to look at it but can't stand the way it tastes. Hmmmm.

A Very Successful Sandwich

The office ordered sandwiches from Primo's on a Monday, or Tuesday? I ordered the Sicilian, dry cured capacola, sharp provolone and genoa salami. I also requested long fried hot peppers and pickles. It was delicious.
I would like to eat this hoagie all the time.

Sunday Work Lunch

The Sunday following, I went to work. For lunch I ordered penne with meatballs in rose sauce from Fairmount Pizza. It needed more salt and the meatballs were not very exciting.

Hot Chocolate c/o Éclat Chocolate

Months back I received a free sample of hot chocolate on a stick from Éclat Chocolate. There were two. This one had some sort of chili pepper taste to it that was interesting, but not altogether pleasant. It might actually be that I was in the mood for non-fancy hot chocolate. You will also note that I have blue nails in one of the photographs. I did that before seeing Bruce Springsteen.

Interesting idea, hot chocolate on a stick.
Thanks to Eclat Chocolate for the taste.

The Boss

After ice cream I drove back home and walked down to where a free live little concert featuring Bruce Springsteen. I became a bit overwhelmed by all the faces of people I didn't know, that whole large crowds lonely thing is true, so I left and sat on my deck--capable of hearing the echoes of the music without feeling bone crushingly isolated.

A Long, Long Time Ago

The weekend before last I went out to the Roxborough/Manayunk area and met up with J. We then went to a local arts fair type thing, where I bought myself a really aweseome print of a painting of a chicken. S. and N. came along, and I have many a picture of barnyard animals and S. in a fire truck, but I'm just trying to put a bit of new content up here before an early morning tomorrow (wedding in the Poconos!).

After the art we had ice cream. I had the non-Dairy Queen equivalent of a blizzard, with Snickers.

Out Of Order

I hate posting out of order, but I just wanted to share that yesterday, for about ten seconds, I was on the local 11 o'clock news. For playing scrabble.

A Little Party

Two weeks back, I think, my coworkers B. and M. had a party. I attended this party. M. made cookies and guacamole and tortillas. Their building had a roof. I went up to the roof. Their view? The building in which I spent my first three months in Philadelphia. It was creepy.

Farm Stand Fun Time

Last Wednesday, I think, a coworker or two and I went to the Fairmount Avenue farmer's market. I bought more Concord grapes, because I love them.
And I refrained from buying whoopie pies, though I love them too.
Then, maybe the next day, I ordered a Tandoori fish dish for lunch. It was not as good as I had hoped.

Chicken Cheese Steak, Good Idea? Bad Idea?

Nine million years ago, at work, we ordered lunch from Fairmount Pizza. As we passed the scrap of paper around, writing what we wanted, I noticed that L. had chosen a buffalo chicken cheese steak. This intrigued me, so I got one too. It was something all right. I ate half of it, and I think that, for the most part, I enjoyed it...I think. But I donated the second half to C. on some other night when she was jonesing for naan.
The dragon felt right at home with the sandwich's color palette.

Indian c/o King of Tandoor and Work

Some time last week, or perhaps the week before at this point, we ordered from King of Tandoor for dinner. I had the bindi bhajee (spelling?). Okra and tomatoes all stewed and spicy. Well, not that spicy. None of King of Tandoor's food, that I've tried, has had much of a kick to it. I assume that this is because they know they're cooking for a bunch of white girls in an office. I'm sure that if I specified spicy, it would be spicy. But I'm not actually sure I'd want spicy. If you know what I'm saying. I like spices but I also like not feeling like I'm battling fire to eat a tasty thing. Okay. Now I'm going to work.

Tea

I'm kind of fascinated by this. It's a weird thing, though, the idea of a see-through teapot. And I wonder if I would like the taste of the tea. Watch the video, it's kind of neat. Just imagine you could have an artistic cup of tea. Artistic? Sculptural?

Tuna Sandwich c/o Mugshots

Another day last week, the office ordered lunch from Mugshots. I ordered their spicy tuna salad wrap. It was not mindblowing. Though I don't need my tuna salad to be absolutely drowning in mayo, I found this version a little dry. And while I looked forward to the spiciness, I had expected a more full taste experience, instead of what felt like a mish mash of spicy with no discernible balance point.

The dragon, on the other hand, balanced just fine.
