This weekend the boyfriend and I went up to Madison, Wisconsin to see a friend. Our biggest excursion most surely (in my mind) our trip to an apple orchard but seeing as I'm going to write that up (along with a recipe for applesauce) for Chicagoist tomorrow I'll give you the rest of the highlights. We arrived around 9:30 and went to a Irish themed pub/restaurant. Our friend lives in a recently developed area of Madison where everything is a bit shiny and unneeded...lots and lots and lots of chain restaurants and stores and their inevitable parking lots, sultry teenagers and stay-at-home moms. The restaurant was no exception. It was next to a 'Cheeseburger Paradise' restaurant, across the way from a World Market and Cold Stone Creamery and there was a TGIF just at the other side of the parking lot. They did, however, have guys playing Irish type music and whisky flights.

And large portraits of Michael Collins.
Did you immediately identify the painting as Michael Collins? Could that have been in part thanks to Irish History with George Robb? Or was it because of a memorable performance by Liam Neeson?
ReplyDeleteActually there was a little plaque below the thing but I didn't read any more than the name thanks to a) George Robb's class b) Liam Neeson's movie and c) The Wind That Shakes the Barley (movie not book)
ReplyDeleteI then told the guys all about Collins...though I could have made some stuff up.
